Generic Levaquin For Bacterial Infections

Generic Levaquin (Levofloxacin) belongs to the class of fluoroquinolone antibiotics which is used for bacterial infections treatment.

Levaquin is available in strengths of 250 and 500 mg.

Important information about Levaquin

Let your health provider know about the drugs you are taking. Levaquin medication should not be used by the patients who have an allergy to it or similar antibiotics including Ciprofloxacin, Moxifloxacin, Ofloxacin, and some others. You should also tell the medical provider about the medical conditions you have such as kidney or liver disorders, diabetes, joint problems, myasthenia gravis, seizures or epilepsy, hypokalemia, and some others.

The interval between the use of Levaquin and such medications as antacids, vitamins or minerals, Sucralfate, or Didanosine must be 2 hours as they can decrease the effectiveness of Levaquin.

Side Reactions of Levaquin

Levaquin can lead to sunlight sensitive of the skin, so one should avoid exposure to the sunlight during the treatment.  Levofloxacin medication might lead to swelling or tearing of a tendon.  This side effect commonly occurs in elderly patients, in patients taking an oral steroid medication, or in those who have had kidney, heart, or lung transplantation.  One should stop taking Levaquin and inform the medical provider if such unwanted adverse effects occur: sudden pain, swelling, weakness, stiffness, or pain in joints.

HELP……another sinus infection, what do I do?

Well I find myself with another sinus infection…….and that is what got me in this boat after taking 5-6 weeks of Levaquin.
So now what do I do?
We had a LOT of rain last week which upped the humidity level, prime time for me to get a sinus infection.
All I’ve been doing is sitting here eating benadryl after benadryl to keep the pressure down behind my eyes and to get it to drain some……..but it doesn’t take away the fact I’m still infected and I’m going to have to go see the ENT (ear nose and throat doc) that prescribed this crap (Levaquin) and blew me off when I complained about how much PAIN I’ve been in since last January-February. (I did make him write it in his notes so it is in my chart about the pain……..but its been IGNORED)
To top this off, I go to my regular pain management appt on Wednesday to refill the morphine I’ve been on for over 3 years because of my back. Do you know the morphine and muscle relaxers don’t even begin to touch the pain caused from the levaquin?
I can’t take ibuprofen because I have ulcers and gastritis (thank you salmonella poisoning and its lifelong health effects)
I can’t take tylenol because one idiot Dr prescribed oxycodone (percocets) for 8 months at 8 pills per day so that was way too much acetaminophen for that time…….I could have had liver damage. (thankfully I didn’t get any damage……for once I missed out on something)
I’ve done everything I could to avoid a sinus infection. I have a severe dust allergy and I’ve been having immuno-therapy for months, giving myself shots at home once a week.
Unfortunately I don’t have any control over the weather last week…….a week of rain has done me in.
Oh yea……..and I’m allergic to penicillin. HA
AND……..all this has me teetering on the brink of a financial abyss…….
Every joint in my body is screaming 24 hrs a day. My mobility has gone down to forcing myself to move and on an as needed basis.
I used to enjoy gardening but with the rain the weeds have gone crazy…….with the rain I became sick, with the Levaquin it has robbed my body and caused so much more pain so getting outside to catch up on my gardening is out of the question.
I’m freaked out to go back to the ENT for fear he’ll ignore me AGAIN and try to prescribe levaquin or cipro for the sinus infection……….that and they’ll want $$$$$$$$$$ too. I’m not giving them another cent, not after all the hell I’m going through everyday.
I rightly don’t care anymore.
I know, go get another doc but it isn’t that easy with all my medical problems.
Eh, there……..had to vent. I’ll figure it out but I’m open to suggestions too.
A very frustrated sick person

Common Symptoms of Levaquin-Cipro poisoning

I’m only at the A’s and I’m scared! I was just telling hubby 2 weeks ago that my eyesight was changing really fast for just being 42 almost 43……thinking macular degeneration aka ‘old age’ need bifocals…..but I complained while driving because I couldn’t read the road signs until I was on TOP of them…..something I’ve never had a problem with before.
Bathed my dog last Friday with the help of our Chinese exchange student. Couldn’t use my hands for days they hurt soooooooooooooooo bad. Not only my hands but the tendonitis reared its ugly head in my right shoulder, right elbow and right wrist……it just snowballed. I’ve been down for half a week and now the remnants of Fay are threatening to douse NC and I’m about to go out of my mind from the PAIN in my joints and muscles. I’m still in my pajama’s……..YESTERDAYS pajama’s!!!!!!! (yea I know, ewwwww)
My CHORE for today is to take a BATH. That’s IT. That is ALL I’ll be able to accomplish today.
Unfreakingbelievable.

Leavaquin

My name is Diane, and in March I was prescribed 7 days of Levaquin
(500mg)for a routine UTI in March. Sadly, the pharmacy filled it at
750mg (whole other issue) and on the 7th night I started suffering
anxious behavior, increased heart-rate, a burning sensation in my
entire body and was in the hospital. I’m still having many of these
same symptoms (I’ve been hospitalized twice) and now under the care of
a Neurologist. Has anyone else had these symptoms? If so, have they
gotten any better? It’s now been 4 months and I’m not getting any
better…..We’ve done some research (our daughter is in nursing school)
and a routine UTI should have been prescribed at 250mg….I’m
miserable, suffering depression and lack muscle strength. I’m a 46
year old female that walked 4 miles in 45 minutes every single day (and
I live in Michigan) and now if I can even complete 2 miles (if I can
finish) in that same time, it’s amazing…..Guess my biggest question
is, has anyone suffered these side effects and have they gotten better
over time?
